As at 31 August 2010, the number of serious casualties is 206, compared to 258 for the same period in 2009, a 20.2% decrease. As at 30 September 2010, the number of fatalities is 23 compared to 53 for the same period in 2009, a 56.6% decrease.
For the first eight months of 2010 there have been 913 road deaths in Australia. This is a 9.2% decrease over the same eight month period in 2009. The table below outlines road crash deaths for individual states and territories. Tasmania currently has the highest decrease (58.5%) in fatalities.
